Turnbuckles
What is Turnbuckle? Commonly known as a barrel strainer, rigging tensioner or straining screw, Turnbuckle is a 3-piece metal coupling device used to change the length / the applied tension slowly without spinning the cable/rope to which it is attached and take up the slack and apply tension to a rigging assembly. There are different turnbuckle types such as Eye-Eye Turnbuckle and Eye-Hook Turnbuckle for different fixing. Turnbuckles are widely used in applications that are required a large amount of tension like entertainment, construction, aircraft, shipping, and pipe systems.
At MTN SHOP, we stock different turnbuckle types and turnbuckle sizes for your rigging requirements.
Eye-Eye Turnbuckle:
The eye-end fitting is used with other components that can be opened and connect into the eye such as a shackle or quick link. They contain no moving parts and are cost-effective end fittings! 5/16''(M8) and 3/8''(M10) threaded sizes are available.
Eye-Hook Turnbuckle:
The hook-end fitting temporarily connects components and can be conveniently attached and detached. They are ideal to use in situations where there is an easy and quick attachment and where the anchor point will not fall out of the opening of the hook. 5/16''(M8) and 3/8''(M10) threaded sizes are available.

Entertainment Use:
Turnbuckles are used in nearly all rigging performed in the entertainment industry, including theatre, film, and live concert performances. In entertainment rigging, turnbuckles are more commonly used to make small adjustments in line lengths. This is generally to make a flown unit sit parallel to the stage. Another way a turnbuckle could prove helpful is with making very minor height or angle adjustments.
