Get Ready for PETZL RopeTrip 2018
The North American PETZL RopeTrip series is coming up this February and will consist of five days of rope climbing competition. Read on to learn more about what to expect!
What is the PETZL RopeTrip?
Created in 2012, the PETZL RopeTrip brings rope-access professionals together for competitions and educational events. This year, the North American series will take place from February 11th through the 16th at Petzl Technical Institute in Salt Lake City, UT.
The events are open to adults who are certified in rope access or are a certified rope specialist. The events are physical, so being in shape is a necessity, too.
Teams of three or individuals—depending on the event—compete against one another in multiple challenges. These are sometimes timed, sometimes not, and are always rope-based competitions.
Events like this are a great way to network with professionals in the field who are just as passionate about their work as you are!
What to expect this year
There will be a two-day rope access competition during the first two days, a one-day rope access symposium on the third day, and two days of training courses on days four and five. For a full, detailed schedule, visit their event page.
If you’re attending, make sure to bring the following things with you to ensure that you can participate in all events:
- 1 full body harness with both fall arrest and work positioning attachment points
- 1 self-braking descender with locking carabiner
- 2 rope clamps
- 1 chest and 1 handled rope clamp, or 2 handled rope clamps
- 1 rope access backup device or mobile fall arrester
- with lanyard if required and appropriate
- At least 1 double legged lanyard with its 2 locking carabiners
- triple lanyard for participants using 2 x handled rope clamps
- 1 rope access helmet
