Along with a fall arrest system, a climber’s inventory isn’t complete without reliable descenders, pulleys, rope grabs, and other climbing tools. Petzl is a leading provider of safe, quality climbing gear, both for recreational use and professional use. The RIG device is a compact, self-braking descender designed for experienced rope access workers. Some handy features and safety check characteristics make the RIG a valuable device in any climber’s collection.

The RIG descender features a multi-function handle that gives users total control of the descent speed and positioning without the need to tie-off the device. Workers can easily use the RIG’s safety clip to reduce the risk of dropping it at height. The RIG’s handle has an automatic return system that limits risks if it is involuntarily bumped.

The RIG is easily installed on a rope via a unique side-sliding gate. Operation is simple and secure, giving the worker all of the control with minimal risk. Workers still must be properly educated and trained in climbing and usage of this device to ensure complete safety.

  • Multi-functional handle allows user to unlock the rope and control the descent with a hand on the free end of the rope as well as position themselves at a work station without having to tie-off the device
  • Automatic return system on handle
  • Handle storage position reduces risk of snagging when carried on harness
  • Moving side plate gate helps prevent dropping the device and facilitates rope installation when passing intermediate anchors
